| Resumen:En este trabajo se estudian las interacciones verbales entre niños con diferente grado de visisón (ciegos, deficientes visuales y videntes) y sus madres. Se presentan datos procedentes de dos estudios longitudinales diferentes. En el primero, se observaron y analizaron las interacciones conversacionales de tres niños (una niña ciega, otra vidente y un niño deficiente visual) y sus madres. Los niños fueron investigados entre los 22 y los 25 meses de edad. En el segundo estudio se observó a cuatro niños—tres de los cuales eran ciegos y una vidente—y a sus madres durante dos períodos evolutivos: desde los 28 a los 34 meses (período 1), y desde los 35 a los 40 meses (período 2). Todos los niños y sus madres participaron en sesiones mensuales de observación realizadas en su ambiente familiar en situación natural que fueron grabadas con video. El foco de interés de los análisis fue la capacidad de los niños ciegos para participar en interacciones comunicativas, comparada con la capacidad de niños videntes y deficientes visuales. No se hallaron diferencias en la capacidad para inciar conversaciones, ni en la longitud de los turnos ni en la producción de rupturas conversacionales entre los niños. Por otra parte, se ha encontrado que las madres de los niños ciegos iniciaban más conversaciones y adoptaban más turnos por episodio conversacional que las madres de los niños videntes y deficientes visuales. Por tanto, las descripciones previas sobre la capacidad comunicativa de los niños ciegos (Kekelis y Andersen, 1984; Moore y McConachie, 1994; Kekelis y Prinz, 1996) son puestas en cuestión.//Verbal interactions between mothers and their young blind, visually impaired and sighted children were examined. Data coming from two different longitudinal studies are presented. In the first study, conversational interactions of three children (one blind, one visually impaired and one sighted child) and their mothers were observed and analysed. The children were studied between 22 and 25 months of age. In the second study, four children were studied—three of which were blind, and the fourth had normal vision—in interaction with their mothers. Two time periods were examined: from 28 to 34 months of age (Period 1) and from 35 to 40 months of age (Period 2). All children and their mothers participated in monthly, naturalistic video recording sessions at home. The focus of the analysis was the capacity of blind children to participate in communicative interactions as compared to that of sighted and visually impaired children. No differences were found among children in the capacity to initiate conversations, the length of conversational turns, or the production of conversational breakdowns. On the other hand it was found that the mothers of blind children tended to in initiate more conversations and to take more turns per conversational episode than the mothers of the visually impaired and the sighted children. Thus, former descriptions on the communicative capacity of blind children (Kekelis & Andersen, 1984; Moore & McConachie, 1994; Kekelis & Prinz, 1996) are being questioned. | |
